are major parts suppliers to many well known international companies
such as : Delphi Diesel System Ltd, Lear Corporation, Solartron,
Johnson Controls, Farnell, Electrospeed & Siemens VDO.
Our factories in Dorset
provide ample space and modern facilities. In recent years we have
been investing at a rate in excess of 10% of our turnover. Our medium
and long term strategy is to develop the company as a volume supplier
of quality product to demanding customers.
William Hughes Limited
was established 1790. We are a family run business who has over
the years developed extensive knowledge of wire and wire forming.
We are dedicated to providing quality and service.
Originally the company
was based in London where we sold wire to flower ladies in Dury
Lane!
Before the first world
war we manufactured piano strings but during the war we started
making springs. We have been marketing springs since 1914 and have
over the years developed extensive skills in spring manufacture.
In the 1950s we
developed a business in stocking spring steel wire. We became Webster
& Horsfalls agents and have built up a long standing relationship
with them. Webster & Horsfall are an even older company than
ourselves and share the same traditional family values.
The company started
to move out of London in 1967. The town chosen to move to was Shaftesbury
in North Dorset. It was on route to a holiday home in Devon!!
As the company expanded
and more space was required we moved again in 1995, to Stalbridge.
15 miles from Shaftesbury. The Stalbridge factory is all under one
roof and provides excellent facilities for our current production
needs.
Through the 90s
the company has expanded to included manufacturing of sub assemblies.
The sub assemblies we manufacture at the moment are still based
on wire but techniques have been developed such as welding, punching,
wire forming, wire threading, clipping wire and many more that add
value to the product for our customer.
The company has maintained
a family business for over 200 years and will continue to do so
in the future. Our long and medium term strategy is to develop the
company as a volume supplier of quality product to demanding customers
for generations to come.
